Yellow-throated Warbler

The yellow-throated warbler is not often seen at Magee Marsh, but when it is seen it's during the first half of May.  The bird is very striking with the strong black-and-white markings on the face and the bright yellow throat.  The Kentucky warbler has a similar black patch on the face but lacks the white and has more extensive yellow on the underside.  The yellow-throated vireo is quite different, since it has no black on the face.  The common yellowthroat has a black face patch that runs continuously from one side of the face to the other, and has a brown back and head rather than the blue-gray of the yellow-throated warbler.
