Red-eyed VireoThe red-eyed vireo is a late migrant
through Magee Marsh, peaking in late May with a build-up starting in
about the second or third week of the month. The male can be
identified in its breeding plumage by the strong black superciliary
stripe (above the eye), a weaker stripe through the eye, and a gray
pate. Though the red in the eye can be seen in the right
conditions at close range, it's often not easy to see otherwise.
The warbling and Philadelphia vireos lack the white
and black stripes over the eye. Though the blue-gray gnatcatcher has a
black superciliary, its dorsal plumage is blue-gray.
